Flint Corn, Abenaki
New for 2012 80-90 days. This is our farm's pride and joy dry corn. Good yield and reliability make this one that we plant every year. Best for polenta, grits and wet batter cornbread. Native to the northeastern US and named after the Abenaki tribe. 8-10 rows of kernels on single color cobs that are yellow, red or orange. Very ornamental and tolerant of difficult growing conditions. We have selected it for more orange and larger ears. Highly recommended by Carol Deppe in The Resilient Gardener. She used it as one of the parents of her new Cascade flint corn varieties.
