Garlic, Rosewood (Organic)
Garlic season will resume August 2014
Hardneck Porcelain Type.
A beautiful and high performing Moldovan garlic that is vigorous and seems to be very resistant to diseases like rust and tolerant of wet spring soil. With classic pungent porcelain flavor and long storing ability, Rosewood deserves a place among more common high performance varieties on the farm and in the garden. The consistent medium-large size of Rosewood is perfect for farmers markets where customers may be intimidated by the jumbo sized bulbs that varieties like Music and Estonian Red often throw at you. Yield is excellent if bulbs are planted at a fairly close spacing such as 6". Mid-late season harvest, coming in a little earlier than Music and Nootka Rose. Large cloves common to porcelain types with about 5 cloves per bulb. The brown red clove wrappers are probably where Rosewood gets its name.
Originating in the former Soviet Union in what is now Moldova. From the Moldavian Institute for Vegetable Research, Tirasopol, Moldova, near the border with Ukraine. It is listed in The USDA GRIN Database as PI 493099.
Minimum bulb size for our seed garlic is 2 inches across. Average 5-8 bulbs per pound.
