Lettuce, Vulcan

New for 2012 The unstoppable vivid Vulcan. We have grown this bright, red-leaf lettuce for many years on our farm and on other organic farms in Oregon. It is very early to mature and it has the most attractive color of all red leaf lettuces. The tender durability, and heat and disease tolerance, have made this our red leaf lettuce of choice. If we were going to plant a 300' bed of lettuce this would be the one, easily beating out New Red Fire and Red Sails. Good for organic farm production as well as home gardens. Plant in succession as it has only moderate bolt resistance. Bred from a cross between a Korean red leaf and Red Fire. Introduced and patented by Sakata Seed Company in 1987. The PVP expired in 2010. Yay!
