Wheat, Yamhill

Triticum aestivum. Soft white winter wheat. Medium height, lodge resistant plants with stiff straw. Well adapted as a winter wheat in western Oregon and Washington. Somewhat resistant to stripe rust, leaf rust and leaf blotch. Named after the Yamhill River which is named after the indigenous people of the area, the Che-ahm-ill, a subgroup of the Kalapuya. Developed by the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station, released in 1969. It was selected from a cross between Heines VIII and Alba.
