Onion, Maria Nagy's Transylvanian - Will Be Back 2013

A landrace storage red onion variety from a region of Transylvania that is famous for its storage onion production. Onions measure 2-4 inches across, produce even with low fertility and water inputs, and store well through the following spring. Maria Nagy is one of the few subsistence farmers in Romania that still saves all of her own seeds, which she generously shared with us in our 2008 visit to Romania. She brought this onion as her contribution to the annual Turda Fest Agricultural Festival to place Turda in the Guinness Book of World Records for World’s Longest Onion Braid, which measured 5,800 meters in 2008.

Will be availible again in 2013. Sorry for any inconvenience, biennials take a long time to make seed.
