About Adaptive Seeds

The Seeds of the Seed Ambassadors Project

We grow and steward rare, diverse and resilient seed varieties and distribute these to other ecologically minded farmers, gardeners and seed savers. Most of our seed is adapted to the Pacific Northwest and short season northern climates. All of our seed is grown by us and a few local friends who act as our isolation gardens. We strictly sell only public domain, open-pollinated (OP) seed, and some diverse genepool mixes. NONE of our seeds are proprietary hybrids (F1), patented (PVP) or genetically modified (GMO) and all of our seed is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.

Some of our seed priorities:

- Adaptivars, grexes, and landrace varieties

- Rare and Heritage varieties

- Oregon & Northwest bred varieties & heirlooms

- Public Domain modern varieties

- Winter garden varieties

- Early maturing & northern adapted varieties

- Highly nutritious staples that really feed us

- Ideal OP varieties for commercial growers

We are not a typical seed company; please see us as a gene resource for your own seed stewardship goals. We encourage seed saving and we encourage you to save and adapt the seeds in our catalog to your own conditions. It would delight us to one day become obsolete as seed saving is restored to its former greatness as a near universal act.

As a small group of seed stewards based near Crawfordsville, Oregon, our principal goal is to add to the diversity of locally adapted varieties in our bioregion and disseminate this precious resource widely.  We see locally adapted varieties as the foundation of the durable and resilient local food system that we are helping to create.
