Tricolor Daisy, Fancy Pants Mix (Organic)
Ismelia carinata. 55-65 days.
Daisy-like flowers in a wide array of color patterns make this mix a fun addition to the garden. Colors form in concentric circles around dark reddish brown centers and range from white to pale and dark yellows, oranges, salmon, pinks, reds and even lavender and burgundy! Profuse quantities of 1”-3” blooms form over a long season and keep going right up until frost. Plants grow to about 2’-3’ tall and wide. Makes a good cut flower. Shoots and young leaves are edible. Native to North Africa and has naturalized in temperate areas around the world. Aka, Painted Daisy, Tricolor Chrysanthemum, Annual Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum carinatum.
For earlier blooms, we recommend sowing indoors 6 weeks before last frost to transplant after danger of frost. May also be direct sown after danger of frost has passed. Thin plants to 12″ – 18″ centers. Deadhead to prolong bloom. Prefers full sun.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from flower heads that are fully dry. Thresh by hand or by dancing, winnow to clean. Finish air-drying if necessary before sealing in airtight container. Cross-pollinates easily; if seed saving isolate from other varieties of the same species by 1/2 mile.
