Zeramarez Seed Garlic (Organic)
Hardneck TGS/Purple Stripe type
Zeramarez is a newly developed True Garlic Seed (TGS) progeny bred by Avram Drucker of Garlicana in Douglas County, Oregon. Selected for flavor, beauty and productivity, this new variety is truly special and a favorite of Garlicana’s TGS releases. A great choice for those who like it hot – when freshly dug, it has been described by one garlic aficionado as the hottest garlic they have ever eaten. We find the raw cloves to have a very hot initial bite with a nice clean finish that does not linger too long. Large bulbs and large cloves are all wrapped up in beautiful purple and pink stripes. Late harvest and moderately good storability. A selection made out of the Azataza lineage of True Garlic Seed progeny.
Because most garlic is propagated from clones (ie planting cloves), very few people have ever worked on breeding new garlic varieties. The process of getting True Garlic Seed is painstaking, and it takes two years or more to get to a single garlic bulb! Then many more years go into evaluating and stabilizing each garlic, and finally, increasing to be able to offer for sale. Well over a decade of work went into the breeding and selection of this variety!
To support the work of independent plant breeders, Adaptive Seeds pays “liberties” (our version of breeder “royalties” because, ick!) on varieties we do not source from the breeder. By purchasing this variety, you are supporting independent plant breeders and directly helping to Bring Biodiversity Back!
Zeramarez seed garlic minimum bulb size is 1.75″ diameter. Average 4-5 bulbs per pound, 6-8 plantable cloves per bulb.
No international orders.
