Cabbage, Dowinda (Organic)

Brassica oleracea. Green storage. 100 days.

A late season green storage cabbage well-suited for fall production. Tender and sweet, great in fresh eating applications like coleslaw; also makes exceptional sauerkraut. Impressive lack of farty-smell when cooked! Heads are slightly oblong in shape. Dowinda Cabbage is best planted out in mid-July for harvest in November, when cool weather enhances both flavor and texture. We first met Dowinda when glancing into winter storage cabbage bins at Dottenfelderhof Agricultural Community in Germany in 2006. Mountainous piles of this delicious cabbage were being produced there as part of the process of further selecting Dowinda for its incredible qualities. Bred by Dietrich Bauer and first released in 2004, Downdia is a special selection from Dottenfelder Dauer, a classic cabbage produced by German Biodynamic growers since the 1970’s. We are proud to source our seed from our friends at Uprising Seeds and we thank them for maintaining and producing this valuable variety in the US.

Seed produced by Uprising Organics in Lynden, Washington.

As required by the Oregon Department of Agriculture & the Washington Crucifer Quarantine, all Brassica family seed lots have been tested & found negative for blackleg (Phoma lingam) by an approved, certified lab.
