Aster, Giants of California (Organic)
Callistephus chinensis. 90 days.
Intense pom-poms of double, daisylike flowers in bright and light pink, lavender, and white, providing a different color palette than other flowers we offer. The colors are so vivid it looks like someone turned the pastel saturation all the way up on grandma’s old TV. Flowers hold a long time both on and off the plant; long slender stems are good for cutting. Blooms to 4” across on plants that grow to 3′ tall.
Geographical Origin |

Direct sow after danger of frost or sow indoors 6 weeks before last frost to transplant after danger of frost for earlier blooms. Thin plants to 18″ centers. Deadhead to prolong bloom. Prefers full sun.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from flower heads that are fully dry. Thresh by hand or by dancing, winnow to clean. Finish air-drying if necessary before sealing in airtight container. Cross-pollinates easily; if seed saving isolate from other varieties of the same species by 1/2 mile.
