If you saw these flowers blooming under the surface of an alien planet’s warm water sea, you might assume you were looking at a novel species of sea-anemone-coral hybrid. Alluring pale blue flowers seem to turn a shade of pink when the sunlight hits just right. Slightly inward-curling petals are Chrysanthemum-like and give a soft yet sturdy appearance to the blooms. Strong stems make great cut flowers. Once the second flush of flowers develops, the plants produce a whole-plant bouquet with dozens of blooms. Upright plants grow to about 2’ tall, making them the perfect size for growing in containers or as bedding plants. We originally sourced this special variety from UK company Seeds of Distinction and are thrilled to produce seed for North America.
Direct sow after danger of frost or sow indoors 6 weeks before last frost to transplant after danger of frost for earlier blooms. Thin plants to 18″ centers. Deadhead to prolong bloom. Prefers full sun.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from flower heads that are fully dry. Thresh by hand or by dancing, winnow to clean. Finish air-drying if necessary before sealing in airtight container. Cross-pollinates easily; if seed saving isolate from other varieties of the same species by 1/2 mile.
