Feverfew, White Wonder (Organic)

Tanacetum parthenium. 60 days. Perennial in zones 5-10.

Clusters of double, ½” daisy-like flowers with yellow centers form on each stem and make an excellent filler for arrangements or a nice bouquet all on their own. Plants grow to 2′ high and are very productive. Also dries well for use as an everlasting. Very easy to grow and tolerant of poor growing conditions. Much less fragrant and likely less medicinal than our single-flowered Medicinal Feverfew, which is the same species. Not attractive to pollinators. Aka, Matricaria, Chrysanthemum parthenium and Pyrethrum parthenium.

Needs light to germinate; surface sow indoors 6 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after danger of frost has passed. Transplant or thin starts to 12″ centers. Germinates in 10 to 14 days at 70˚F. Prefers well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Will self-sow, deadhead to prevent self seeding.

Seed Saving

Collect seeds from flower heads that are fully dry. Thresh by hand, winnow and screen to clean. Some cross-pollination may occur, isolate from other varieties of the same species by 1/4 mile.

Where did you grow this variety? Midwestern US

Growing Feverfew in the past, I was always unimpressed with short stems. In Zone 6b, transplanted in the fall, these babies bloomed in mid May with a great harvest window and were easily 40″ tall. The sunniest, cheeriest of bouquet fillers for late spring and early summer arrangements. Growing again in 2022!
