Rose Campion (Organic)
Silene coronaria. Perennial in zones 4-9.
Traditionally a very popular, easy to grow flower. Small, magenta blossoms held atop 2-3′ tall, downy silver plants. We find it tolerates neglect better than most plants and will come back perennially for many years. Drought hardy and self seeding – once you get enough going it will naturalize nicely. Tolerates partial shade and can flower in the first year if sown early.
Press seeds on top of soil but do not bury. Seeds need to chill before they will germinate, sow in autumn or 2-3 weeks before last frost. Deadhead to promote longer flowering and prevent self-seeding.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from seed heads that are fully dry. Shell by hand, winnow or screen to clean. Some cross-pollination may occur, isolate from other varieties of the same species by ¼ mile.
