Sweet Pea, Blue Celeste (Organic)
Lathyrus odoratus. 60 days.
The Blue Celeste Sweet Pea patch is one of my favorite spots in the field or garden in early summer. Loads of sky blue flowers with a faint purple hue are almost luminescent, and the classic sweet pea scent seems to call out and remind me to take a few minutes to enjoy a moment here and there. Plants grow to 4’ tall and stems are nice and long for cut flowers. Earlier than most other sweet peas and continues to bloom even after summer heats up. By far the best sweet pea of our trials in 2019, and the only one to be added to our offerings.
Seed produced by Saltwater Seeds near Sequim, Washington.
Direct sow 1/4” deep late fall to overwinter plants for early blooms, or very early spring. Germination in 7-14 days. Prefers cool weather and full sun. Will self sow.
Collect seeds from pods before they shatter. Sift and winnow to clean. Finish air-drying if necessary before sealing in airtight container. Some cross-pollination may occur, but sweet peas are primarily self-pollinating and do not need isolation for seed saving purposes.
