Polish White Seed Garlic (Organic)
Softneck Artichoke type
Polish White garlic is the quintessential softneck garlic — an artichoke type that yields always large, and often giant, bulbs. The beautiful light purple blushing on white-to-tan wrappers makes us wonder why it is called Polish White. This very reliable variety is similar to Corsican Red, Broadleaf Czech, Siskiyou Purple, and other artichoke types. We have trialed many artichoke types over the years and this may be one of the best. It is consistently productive and even grows well in heavy soils. The 9-15 cloves per bulb and heavy yields make Polish White a good choice for market farms and CSAs, and the high clove count makes replanting your own seed stock very economical. Stores well for at least 10 months with a moderately hot flavor which Avram at Garlicana describes as “a fresh green flavor” that increases in heat during its first six months of storage. Brought to Claredon, New York around 1900 by the Cznowski family, fur traders from Poland.
Polish White seed garlic minimum bulb size is 1.75″ diameter (most are over 2″). Average 5-6 bulbs per pound, 6-8 plantable cloves per bulb.
Seed produced by Myrtle Creek Farm in partnership with Garlicana in Douglas County, Oregon.
No international orders.
GARLIC IS SOLD OUT FOR 2025
Thank you for a great garlic season!
Garlic will not return to stock until Aug/Sept 2026.
For an impressive diversity of seed garlic, we recommend Garlicana, who still has planting stock available.
Separate cloves but do not peel. Plant each clove 2” deep, blunt end down, from October through February. Space plants 6-8” apart in rows 1’ apart. Apply extra fertilizer in March.
Harvest bulbs in mid-July, when roughly 1⁄2 of the leaves are still green. Brush soil off of roots and hang in well-ventilated, shady spot to cure.
