Mix, Birdfood Bonanza (Organic)
Grow a garden for your feathered friends! Mix contains millet, sunflowers, lettuce, cosmos, mustard, and others. We have at times joked that our efforts are for the birds. Quite literally in this case! Sow in spring for a progression of seeds your backyard birds will love. We have been known to grow catch crops of some of these plant types as a way to keep the birds from eating our actual seed crops.
Direct sow to 10” centers in weed free, well prepared soil mid-May to early June, or when danger of frost has passed. May also be transplanted.
Harvest and Seed Saving
Harvest for grain when seeds are dry and plants are no longer green. The birds will tell you when the seed is ripe. Dance, rub, or flail seeds from seedhead. Winnow to clean. Varieties in this mix are not likely to cross-pollinate, so seed saving is encouraged!
