Purple Rapa Pop (Organic)

Add a purple pop to your salad mix, sauté mix, or bunching greens with Purple Rapa Pop — a mild mustard green that is as versatile as it is varied. Leaves are a bit wavy, with colors ranging from bright green through dark purple, with some bright pink midribs that really pop! Vigorous plants grow best in the cool weather of fall through spring. The flavor gets more piquant as temperatures rise, but the colors get more vibrant as the temperatures fall. Plants are very winter hardy in the Pacific Northwest, and really develop some intense colors after a frost or two. This classic diverse pop-ulation stems from the plant breeding playground of Frank Morton at Wild Garden Seeds, released way back in 2008. Aka, Purple Rapa Mix Gene Pool Mustard.

As required by the Oregon Department of Agriculture & the Washington Crucifer Quarantine, all Brassica family seed lots have been tested & found negative for blackleg (Phoma lingam) by an approved, certified lab.

Sow in cells or pots indoors February through May or August through September. Transplant 3-4 weeks after sprouting. May also be direct sown in early spring or late summer. Hot weather may cause premature bolting and/ or extra spicy flavor. Succession sow to extend harvest. Flowers are edible.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from overwintered or early spring sown plants, selecting for slowest bolting. Cut seed heads when pods are dry, thresh by hand or by dancing, winnow to clean. If saving seed, isolate from other Brassicas of the same species by ½ mile.
