Rutabaga, Angela (Organic)
Brassica napus. 80+ days.
Angela is an attractive round rutabaga (aka Swede) with purple tops and light golden flesh. A refined English selection of the classic purple top category of rutabagas. Yields a large percentage of high quality roots that have a sweet flavor and are very winter hardy. Shows some resistance to powdery mildew, which can help the plants size up quicker. We like to leave rutabagas in the garden until we want to eat them, which is usually after frost. Angela can grow large but roots don’t turn into the enormous monsters that some old school varieties can grow into. We found this variety at the 2007 Seedy Sunday Seed Swap in Machynlleth, Wales. A once popular commercial variety originally from Kings Seed in England and we are happy to have introduced it to the US.
Seed produced by Ferry Boat Seeds on San Juan Island, Washington.
As required by the Oregon Department of Agriculture & the Washington Crucifer Quarantine, all Brassica family seed lots have been tested & found negative for blackleg (Phoma lingam) by an approved, certified lab.

Where did you grow this variety? Washington
I know the description said it doesn’t get large, but OMG our were enourmous. They actually held well during snow and freezing temps. Probably won’t grow these again just because of the size. Western, WA fall/winter 2023
