Hardneck Turban type

Bangkok is a Turban type garlic that we have grown many times over the years. It is reliable in the field, quite beautiful to look at, and a pleasure to eat. The wide and squat bulbs of turban types are a unique shape that is delightfully different from other garlics. Wrappers are white with some strong purple streaking, and cloves are plump with pink wrappers. Plants leaf out much more quickly after planting in the fall and continue this accelerated growth all the way through the season, maturing much earlier than the other garlic varieties we offer — almost a month earlier than Silverskin types. The best variety we sell for southern growers, since Turban types require fewer chill hours than most other types. Leaves are much less fibrous than other types of garlic making it a good candidate for green garlic. Heat is moderate with a complex earthy flavor. This variety was picked up in the early 2000’s at a market in Bangkok, Thailand. However, it probably has deeper origins further north in Central Asia or China where turban type garlic is more common.

Bangkok seed garlic minimum bulb size is 2 inches wide. Averages 7-8 bulbs per pound, 8-9 cloves per bulb.
