Khabar Seed Garlic (Organic)
Hardneck Marbled type
Khabar garlic is a strong flavored, high yielding, and reliable variety. Stocky plants with light green leaves produce big, thick garlic scapes. The flavor is fairly hot with a lingering pungency that mellows nicely when roasted. Plants are medium to late maturity, which helps them miss the worst of garlic rust issues. Good storage life of 6 months or more with 6-8 big cloves per bulb. Originally collected in the Siberian city of Khabarovsk by Bob Ellis, a garlic grower from Sitka, Alaska.
We think this garlic would be excellent paired with our Khabarovsk Pole Dry Bean. After all, they are from the same place and beans and garlic are always delicious.
Minimum bulb size is 1.75″ diameter. Average 9 bulbs per pound, 6-7 cloves per bulb.
Seed produced by Sol Cycle Farm near Corvallis, Oregon.
No international orders.
Garlic will begin shipping the week of September 23, 2024. Please note that orders that contain seeds as well as garlic or shallots may be held until garlic ships.
Separate cloves but do not peel. Plant each clove 2” deep, blunt end down, from October through February. Space plants 6-8” apart in rows 1’ apart. Apply extra fertilizer in March.
Harvest bulbs in mid-July, when roughly 1⁄2 of the leaves are still green. Brush soil off of roots and hang in well-ventilated, shady spot to cure.
