Tomato, Justyna (Organic)
Solanum lycopersicum. Orange. 65-70 days. Semi-det.
In our 2018 tomato trial, this orange tomato surprised us with its sweet flavor, which enthusiastically earned it a spot in our catalog. Justyna is a great multipurpose tomato, excellent in salads, salsas and sauces. 2-3″ tall, plum shaped, 1-2 oz fruit are bright orange with a little pointy tail on the blossom end. Plants have a wispy growth habit that reaches about 3′ tall. Selected and stabilized by Tatiana Kouchnareva, of Tatiana’s TOMATObase fame, from a cross made by Tom Wagner between Mountain Rose paste tomato and an F2 of Sun Sugar cherry tomato. Named after Justyna Kowalczyk, a well-known Polish cross-country skier.

Sow indoors in flats with good potting soil as early as February, but no later than April. Keep warm and well-watered. Up pot seedlings into 4” pots once they have two true leaves. Transplant into the garden once danger of frost has passed.
Seed Saving
Collect seeds from ripe fruit by squeezing into a jar and add 25% more water. Wait a few days for mold to form. When seeds sink and gel-sac is gone, stir, add water, then decant and rinse to clean. Dry thoroughly. Tomatoes are mostly self-pollinating; isolation is not usually needed for seeds to be true to type.
